Stock Market Closing Bell Thursday 17 April 2025 | The stock market saw a tremendous surge on Thursday during Nifty’s weekly expiry. It was a short week in the market, but it remained on a good upward trend. There has been remarkable growth in the market for four consecutive days. The Sensex closed at 78,553.20, up 1,508 points.
The Nifty closed at 23,851, up 414 points. The Bank Nifty closed at a level of 54,290, up 1,172 points. Today, no sectoral index closed in the negative. NIFTY FINANCE, NIFTY INFRA, NIFTY PHARMA, NIFTY AUTO and NIFTY ENERGY were the top gainers.
There was strong momentum in banking stocks. ICICI BANK up 4%, SBI up 3%, KOTAK BANK up 3% and CITY UNION BANK up 3% were the top gainers in the sector. On Nifty, Eternal rose 4.5%, BAJAJ FINSERV up 3%, BHARTI AIRTEL up 3% and SUN PHARMA up 3% were the top gainers. The rupee closed stronger by 31 paise at $85.37.
The day started with a decline in the morning, but suddenly there was a sharp surge during the day. The Sensex was up by more than 1200 points. The Nifty also surged by 350 points, nearing 23,800. The Bank Nifty was close to its lifetime high. The index was around 54,400, with a jump of more than 1200 points.
